ESPN GameDay came to Eugene for the Oregon/Cal game... obligatory 5:00am tailgater ensued. Lee Corso picked the Ducks, and would have been right except for a ridiculous fumble into (and out of) the endzone with 22 seconds left and a chance force overtime.

We went skiing yesterday to celebrate Tracy's birthday. We knew the weather was supposed to be beautiful, the last day of nice weather before a storm moved in from up north, and we expected there to be huge crowds.

But we got on the mountain and there were no lines at the lifts, no crowds on the runs.

It was my first time on my new skiis. More photos here.

A friend from work got free tickets to the pre-screening of a new movie "Why We Fight" at the Hollywood theatre.

The movie was great. It is a documentary about the military-industrial complex, weaving in Eisenhower's farewell address as a guide for looking at the current state of the military and the military business.

"This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence – economic, political, even spiritual – is felt in every city, every Statehouse, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society.

In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist...."

The movie was great, but it just left me feeling frustrated. Its like I look up and realize that another year has passed and nothing has changed. Its the same feeling I had when I saw Fahrenheit 9/11, the feeling that if so many other people feel the same way as I do, something has to change soon. The media has to start calling the president and his cabinet on thir bullshit, Congress has to stop rolling over whenever anyone throws out the "patriotism" card, big money has to stop having such influence in why we fight. See this movie if you can.

Rose City Rollers

Last night was the Rose City Rollers first official night. Roller derby is making a comeback all over the country.

We went to the first exhibition match back in October, and it seemed like there were twice as many people this time.

A girl I used to work with is on the "High Rollers" - in green.

Definitely a rowdy crowd... and sponsored by PBR no less!

Snowshoeing at Trillium lake

I went snowshoeing at Trillium lake with Tracy and her roommate Beth this weekend. Trillium was crowded, and after the dude in the truck towing 4 snowmobiles managed to get his truck barely off to the side of the sno-park, we were able to find a parking spot. The snow was a little wet, but there was no wind.

There was a groomed path around the lake, so we didn't really end up needing the snowshoes, but they made us feel cool so it was totally worth it.

We got off the trail a little bit in places.

After having people cruise by us all day we decided, next time: cross country skiis.
